Beijing Welcomes You

When I was a kid, travel was luxurious. Luckily, my school consistently organised study tours. Cities in mainland China became affordable options. Besides Macau and Guangzhou, who can resist the temptation of a 5-day trip in Beijing, which only cost HKD 1,000?

An old saying goes, “He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man.” Juyong Pass is one of the top 3 famous sections. Located in the Changping District, the 50km pass wins its reputation as the most steep pass. Recently, some offers cable car and slide rail, namely the Mutianyu and Qinglongxia Scenic Resort.

Aside from the boat ride in the Kunming Lake of Summer Palace, Forbidden City is a must-see museum. Built in 1406, it was a stately imperial residence for 2 Dynasties. The Bronze Teeth, a comedy, gives you further historical insight. To the south lies Tiananmen Square, which symbolizes the political center of China.

In the same year, the Olympics were held. The mascot Fuwa means “Beijing Welcomes you”. Visiting the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube was a highlight. Unexpectedly, our coach just passed through them. The glimpse did not allow us to snap a picture. We spent half a day celebrating it, in a souvenir shop instead.

China won 51 gold medals, making it the top medalist. This tour allows us to immerse in the excitement. Not to mention the school visit and homestay localised our experience. Our family cooked us Beijing dumplings and Cantonese soup. What a considerate way to serve us.
