Biggest Diwali outside India

Diwali, together with Dussehra and Holi, is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains every autumn. Regarded as a Festival of Lights, the story of Leicester is interconnected with the development of it.

In the 1950s, many Hindus from Asia and East Africa settled in Leicester. Diwali used to be celebrated privately. It was not until 1977 that the Leicester City Council set up the Belgrave Neighborhood Center and highlighted Diwali.

Over 40,000 people flock to experience the festival nowadays. Firework and decoration light up the night sky. Classical dance and music filled the street corner. It signifies new beginnings where the victory of good over evil.

Under the corrupted regime of Sheriff, Robin Hood preyed on the rich and gave to the poor, with a band of outlaws in the Sherwood Forest.

It takes half an hour to explore the legendary hero in Nottingham. But I did not notice that Nottingham Castle Cave will be closed until 2021. Even the Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem was closed due to a public holiday. Lesson learned.

The only place I went was the Wollaton Hall. Built in 1588 by Sir Francis Willoughby, this Grade I listed building is set in a 500-acre of spectacular garden and parkland. Still worth a visit in this natural history museum since 1926.
