When the Petronas Twin Towers symbolizes the prosperity of Malaysia, it also reminds me of the double adventures in this country.

The first time was a cultural and biological tour. Located at the edge of Putrajaya Lake, the Putra Mosque was a distinctive landmark. The prayer hall can accommodate 15,000 worshippers. Its dome was made with rose-tinted granite. Other than selfies, learn about Islam culture from volunteers at the entrance.

While the official religion is Islam, the Hindu shrine Batu Caves just symbolised its diversity. The concept of coexistence also reflects in its unique monarchy. 9 state rulers rotate every 5 years, living in the Istana Negara. The National Monument depicted the struggles of freedom during WWII. So where’s the biological part?

In the Kampung Kuantan Fireflies Park, we were enchanted by the fireflies riding on a sampan, as if they lit up a Christmas tree. Besides Melaka Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary, in the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, we immersed ourselves in the biodiversity under the canopy. How amazing God’s creation is.

The second time was a youth development program under YMCA. Following the guidance from the coach of the Perak Outward Bound Malaysia, we kayaked the vendre in the water; built the camp in the woods; and cooked our meals in the wild. The tailor-made course perfectly built up our team spirit in a few days.

After resting in the treehouse, canyoning was the ultimate encounter with nature. Navigating down a fast flowing stream was adventurous. To push our physical limits, a city-hunting in Kuala Lumpur, from Central Market to Merdeka Square, it just marked another unforgettable moment of our journey. With sweat and tears.
