Before finishing my program in Birmingham, I decided to visit some of my friends, who were studying in other cities. Wasn't it cool to have local tour guides after all?

The Elegant Bridge in Bristol

Bristol flourished as a major trading centre once. Due to its docks and aero-engine factories, it was heavily bombed during WWII. It is the capital town of graffiti and street art. Banksy, the artist of Girl with Balloon, made his name here before going to London.

Upon Brandon Hill, the Cabot Tower was located in a park. The grade II listed building commemorated the Canadian journey by John Cabot. While upon the River Avon, the Clifton Suspension Bridge gives an impression of elegance, revelling in ornate crescents.

A Stunning Cathedral in Coventry

Coventry is a vibrant and lively city. The Coventry Cathedral was bombed during WWII. This modern one was created by Sir Basil Spence. The stunning Baptistry Window was made up with 195 panels of stained glass, representing a burst of glory.

We paid a visit to the Herbert Gallery and Museum. Though the city centre is embraced by Coventry University, you can still find IKEA, as well as restaurants and bars, which are worth a shot. The Botanist with garden style is highly recommended.

The Cultural Exchange in Preston

In Preston, we visited part of the University of Central Lancashire. After a nice brunch in the Town House Cafe, we made dinner together with his dorm-mates. They made okonomiyaki and sushi, while I made ketchup pork chops. What a wonderful cultural exchange.

As a student, dining out is not a regular option due to the price level. Why not gather in a house and share the local cuisine cooked by ourselves? Tajine from Tunisia. Brigadeiro from Brazil. Soaking Hippo from Malaysia. Potluck became the affordable way to taste the world.

Anyway, all the best to their study in the UK.
