The Library of Congress in Washington D.C. is the largest library in the world. Constructed between 1888 and 1897, it was initiated by Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the US, who sold his personal collection of 6,487 books to the library.

The building design was based on the Paris Opera House. One of my favorites is the mural depicting courage, valor, fortitude and achievement. Completed in 1455 in Germany, the Gutenberg Bible was also exhibited. This movable metal book marked a turning point from the Middle Ages to the modern world.

Besides the 8 giant marble columns, Edwin Blashfield painted 12 figures that decorate the dome in the Main Reading Room. Each figure represents a civilization, which has contributed the most to the evolution of the western world. To what extent do you agree with his thought?

Founded in 1914, the Congressional Research Service is a research arm of the Congress. From bill drafting to law enactment, it provides assistance at every stage of the legislative process. Experts work for both committees, and members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, regardless of party affiliation.

Fun fact: With a valid passport, everyone can register a library card for free. The access of more than 38 million printed materials is no longer wishful thinking.
