Y Ddraig Goch, aka Welsh Dragon, appears on the flag of Wales. It is believed that Vortigern, king of the Britons, was looking for somewhere to build a castle. When he started to build it above an underground lake, the sleeping dragons laying on it fought with each other.

The red dragon triumphed over the white one. Following the Roman withdrawal in the 4th century, the Welsh kings of Aberffraw adopted the dragon to symbolize their authority initially. In 1959, Queen Elizabeth even authorized the flag to fly on official buildings in Wales.

Wales is a country of Great Britain. King Edward I conquered the western Principality of Wales in the 14th century. The UK Parliament delegated its power in 1998, granting her a degree of self-government with the creation of a Welsh Assembly, known as the Senedd.

Cardiff has been the Welsh capital since 1955. It was once occupied by the Romans. The Bute family inherited and developed the land as the world's busiest coal-exporting port. Are you ready to reach the sky with Y Ddraig Goch?

The Pier Head Building is a reminder of the city’s heyday. It was constructed in Cardiff Bay in 1896 for the Cardiff Railway Company. The intricate decoration and terra-cottage detail was heavily influenced by Indians.

Cardiff Castle was another highlight. It was initially a Roman fort, and transformed into an ornate mansion by the Earl of Bute. Even if you are studying medieval murals, watch out for the guardian Y Ddraig Goch at the entrance.
