The Newseum was founded by the Freedom Forum. Initially located in Virginia, it moved to the capital in 2002, located between the Capitol and the White House. It aims at educating the public the 5 freedoms of the First Amendment: religion, speech, press, assembly and petition.

The museum features eight sections, including the News History Gallery, the collection of Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs, as well as the Berlin Wall Gallery. Visitors could enjoy the interactive exhibits, by presenting as a news anchor or reporting as a journalist.

The “Page One News” displayed all front pages of daily newspapers. “News is history in the making. Journalists provide the first draft of history.” Under the Journalists Memorial, we paid tribute to the sacrificed journalists, and reflected the importance of press freedom.

Unfortunately, Newseum closed at the end of 2019, due to unsustainable finances. The building was sold to Johns Hopkins University for a graduate program. Its temporary office has moved downtown. The institution is finding an alternative location as its next home.
