While Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia, Siem Reap is the most popular city for tourism. The War Museum Cambodia brought us back to an unsettling history of the Khmer Rouge. Under the leadership of Marxist dictator Pol Pot, more than 2 million died from genocide. This bloody cleansing was adapted to “The Killing Fields”.

In addition, Siem Reap is also the gateway to the temples of Angkor. Located in Northern Cambodia, the temple complex was built in the 12th century by Emperor Suryavarman II, as a political center and state temple. Originally, it was dedicated to the god of Hindus Vishnu, till it became the Buddhist temples later.

As a large religious structure, a 3-day itinerary is minimum. In the large circuit, Eastern Mebon was situated on an island, embraced by a reservoir. You can capture the sunset in Phnom Bakheng. The 108 small towers are a sum of cosmic order, while the five sandstones formed Mount Meru, the center of Hindu universes.

In the small circuit, the intertwined snake Neak Pean, where its central pool was filled with herb, flowing in all directions. The mysterious Smile of Angkor was in the Bayon Temple, the only temple for Mahayana Buddhists. It was believed that the faces embodied the image of the great Angkor King Jayavarman VII.

Another significant architecture is the Temple of Angkor Wat. Built for 35 years. Coupled with square altars and cloisters. The national flag also depicted the heritage site. Don't miss out strolling along Roluos Group, where Banteay Srei was built by sandstone, or chilling out in Phnom Kulen National Park under waterfalls.

To take a break from the historical and cultural perspectives, spas, shopping and restaurants in Pub Street 8 might meet your expectations.
